LO3: Following codes and conventions

The genre of Eclipse (the music video we have created) is an Indie Rock song . So therefore we used inspiration from the 1975 music video - Robbers and this is because there are a lot of conventions within this music video to connote the Indie Rock genre and also the storyline of the Robbers is clear and it is a romance storyline which is the same narrative as  Eclipse so therefore this video was a good video to use as inspiration.

As you can see here the top music video is Robbers by The 1975 and the bottom is a screenshot from Eclipse video that our group have made. However the difference is the mood of Robbers is a negative mood as connote by the facial expressions of the characters in the video whereas the mood of Eclipse is suppose to be a happy mood and connote their relationship as being a positive one and this is shown again by the facial expressions of the couple in the video for example the girl is shown to be smiling whereas in the top one she is shown to be frowning and although there is this difference the audience are still able to see the connection between the two characters due to facial expression. Within the music video it needed to be clear that the two characters are a couple and I think this is clear because of the movements made by the characters such as the guy having his arm around the girl and this connotes a form of a relationship.

The top photo is a screenshot from Robbers by The 1975 and the bottom from Eclipse that was made by our group. Again inspiration from Robbers was used because in the music video a guitar is shown being played and from that the audience are able to tell what genre of music video this song is just by seeing this guitar because guitars are often used in bands and not in something such as pop as much. However to make sure the audience are reminded of the relationship the guy in the Robbers video is shown to be showing and teaching the girl how to play the guitar with him arms over hers which is why we have decided to do the same with Eclipse because otherwise the audience may be unsure as to whether or not the two people in the music video are actually a couple and this needs to be clear because the narrative is Romance based. A guitar is a stereotypically recognisable by an audience as an instrument used by a band so therefore we used the guitar in the video to connote the Indie Rock genre of Eclipse.

In the Robbers music video because the main singer plays the role of the main characters the rest of the band are not shown for very long however at the near end of the music video a clip of the rest of the band sat in a van together and this allows the audience to see the rest of the band which makes them feel at ease as they see recognisable faces and this makes the video seem more intermit because its not just one of the band members that is involved in making the music video successful and the band are included in the video to remind the audience of this and remind them that it is not just the lead singers project it is the whole bands . Which is why we have included the live clips of The Ashfields ( the band that we did the music video for ) to make the audience feel as though the video is more intermit and it isn't just narrative based they are able to see the band perform live and able to see what the band look like and also how they perform live. This connotes and Indie Rock genre because gig are often associated with this genre of music so therefore adding the clips of the live show adds this feel to the music video.

This screenshot from Eclipse shows a lot of posters on the guys wall and these posters connote an Indie Rock genre . Because our audience are young it is likely that they have poster of their favourite bands in their room which is why we used this setting for the music video because Oasis are a very well known and respected band especially by people who enjoy the Indie and Alternative bands . So therefore when the audience see the poster in the music video they will recognise the bands logo and will feel a sense of familiarity. If we used a setting that was very clean and plain this would not of been seen as our audience as an ideal setting because a plain setting is not stereotypically how a teenagers bedroom would look.

I have screenshot this part of the music video as an example of how the video connotes an Indie genre because of the clothes the couple are wearing. For example converse are often wore by people who listen to the Indie genre of music so therefore if the girl in the music video is seen to be wearing them the audience may see her as an ideal self or an ideal partner which is needed because if not the audience may not be intreated in watching the video as she is the main character in the video. This is also the same for the guy in the video because his jeans are rolled up and he has white socks which connotes the Indie fashion.

LO3: Planning matching production

This was on our storyboard to have a similar shot of the band The Ashfields playing their gig we attended playing the start scene at 03:16, this is similar to what we ended up filming in the production stage as we got many shots of the band playing as we wanted to see more of the band playing at their gig than the narrative. The screenshot above is the clip of the band and we used the storyboard to get inspiration from what we wanted on the promo, the clip is around 10 seconds long and shows the audience too at a long shot. The shot from what we filmed the gig was from a side angle as we wanted to use different shots to show the whole band from different angles

There is also a clip from our footage of the main protagonists Eddie  writing the lyrics to the song and on a shot later on puts it in Moniques pocket who is the girl he is thinking about it in the promo, this is similar to the one we drew on our storyboard however he is writing a letter to Monique in this and is shot at a medium long shot. When we actually filmed it was shot at an extreme close up of his hand writing the letter and the piece of paper. This shot is only a short clip as it was to be used as an insert shot to show that its important to him and Monique

This screenshot from our storyboard is similar to when we got to the production stage as in the music video for Eclipse we filmed Eddie and Monique arguing in the car at a medium close up to show their full expression on their face, this also matched the audio in the song as it quotes "I've been worked to the bones" it is also a long clip to show what was happening around 14 seconds long, this is one of the key scenes in the promo as it relating around d the lyric to the song. The scene starts at 01:42 which is around the same time we planned out on the storyboard for it to start and ended at 01:56

This is one of the scenes from the storyboard which ended up looking different to how we planned it due to contingencies, so we got a shot of Monique sat in the bathroom reading the letter as it shows from an earlier scene Eddie putting it in her pocket, the shot is a Medium close up which although it wasn't was we planned on. the storyboard it shows the expression on her face and has the letter in it so the audience know what she's doing. The scene is only around 2 seconds as we had to shorten its however the next scene is an extreme close up of her point of view shot of her reading the letter.

The storyboard scene we planned out was showing the couple of Eddie and Monique laid in bed laughing together at a birds eye view with a medium shot. However, when we filmed this scene it showed Eddie holding on to Monique sleeping on his bed although it follows the same storyline it isn't the same as we planned, the shot was still a medium close up but we couldn't film it from a birds eye view due to contingencies, the scene starts at 1:26 and only lasts 2 seconds as there isn't much to show the doing except sleeping however it is an insert shot to show clearly to the audience they a real couple
