LO1: Compare 2 other type of promos

This promo is on Youtube and is talking about how to vote in the UK election in Birmingham and was published by the Birmingham city council. The purpose of this promo is to educate and inform to the audience of 18 year olds from Birmingham how to vote. Although the taget audience is 18 year olds it could also be targeted at older people who havent registerred to vote yet and gives the comntact details of  the Birmingham city council for those watching the promo and are still needing information.

The editing techniques used throughout this promo is usually cuts as the production company is an independent council company whose main focus isnt producing adverts so they are using the basics while still getting their point across. When one of the women are talking to a polling person it does use shot reverse shot to mix it up abit and show to the audience that they aware talking to eachother. The location of this promo is of course Birmingham and in local polling stations across the city to keep with their point of remebering to vote. The costumes used in this promo are just normal clothes this signifies that you dont need to get dressed to vote as it only takes a minute or two and theres no need to look smart for it.

The sound used in this promo is non diegetic music in the background of the man talking in the beginning this makes it more interesting instead of just someone talking. The music carries on throughout the promo til the end keeping the consitency clear and has dialogue on top of it explaining how to vote.

This promo is suitable for its target audience because it is using teacher to student mode of address and the target audience is 18 year olds which are still in school/college or left this makes the promo seem more professional. It is also suitable to inform the audience because it differs from music videos and film trailers as they use different language to target their audience as with alot of other conventions of it like the trailer is for being educated rather than entertainment so it doesn't show anything happening which will give you audience pleasures as Rick Altman theorised, however a music and film video will.

In comparison a film trailer is good to promote the release of a film because it shows conventions of a film trailer and is to entertain the audience rather than educate, they use more excitement and enigma codes to attract the audience based on the genre of film. As the promo for Birmingham City council is almost like a trailer as it is showing us a wider subject within a small amount of time, although instead of entertaining the audience and making them want to watch the film on a film trailer for example this promo for Birmingham is informing the audience and showing them how to vote.

In comparison, The purpose of this promo differs from a music video for example, this is because it shows a different purpose, the purpose of a music video is generally to entertain, however the promo above is to educate and inform. Music video shows entertainment through the use of codes and conventions, one example having fast and upbeat shots to match with the audio. Unlike in this promo above educating the audience in Birmingham the shots are shown for quite a while and match with the audio which is different to music video which has fast shots what lasts a couple of seconds and jumps to the next shots, using a variety of angles to make the video more interesting.

This promo is on Youtube and is promoting Leeds and Reading festival 2017, the target audience is 16-25 year old male and female as from previous trailers this is mostly the age group of everyone there. Although the trailer shows a younger audience there it could also be promoted to a older group depending on which musicians are there as it is a festival with a range of different genres.

The editing techniques used were mostly straight cuts and as the non diegetic sound was upbeat the editing was very quick cuts to the next shot. It was showing shots of the audience and everyones expressions on their face looking happy which is promoting it to audiences who haven't been to Leeds festival before as they see a wide group of people smiling and a lively audience will attract a better audience. It then shows shots of big bands playing on stage this also it promoting Leeds fest as theres huge names and they are perming with excitement to make the crowd more excited.

The sound used in this promo is non diegetic music playing throughout the trailer however it were songs what the band 'Muse' was playing at the festival, this makes the trailer more interesting using fast paced music. It is also keeping consistency and getting the audience in the mood for going to the festival or buying tickets.

This promo is suitable for its 16-25 male and female C2DE audience as although there isn't any dialogue and just backing music the music suits the target audience of the festival and so do the conventions. It is also suitable to entertain the audience as it is showing everyone with excitement on their face which young people should ave when at a festival, also the amount of young people in the trailer all dressed how they usually would will attract the right audience knowing that the festival is for them, this could also entertain the audience as it differs from a music video as there is no conventions of a music video except from the music and people dancing.

In comparison a music video is good to promote the release of a song because it uses specific conventions to grab the target audiences attention, and if they enjoy the video they are more likely to enjoy the actual song which could influence them to download it or buy it on iTunes for example. This differs from the promo for Leeds and Reading festival as although it features upbeat shots it isn't there for entertaining the audience but informing them on one of the biggest festivals in England. Although some conventions of this promo is similar to a music video because it shows music being played and also showing connotations between teenagers and young adult audiences through the use of the actors in the promo and in the music video the actors in that, which links in with mise en scene so the costumes, props and location which is all similar to a music video conventions.

Also in comparison to a film trailer, it shows different codes and conventions one being that this promo is used for the purposes of educating and fits the conventions of a promotion for a festival via the use of Mise en scene, online on film trailers not only does the Mise en scene connote to the audience but the use of acting in the film trailers and the music being played as for a horror film trailer for example sounds which would be used would be deep instrumental music which would have a cliff hanger. The music used in the trailer for a promotion to Leeds and Reading festival features music of the similar genre which is played at the festival which shows the conventions of a festival promo
